British Journalist Killed
International News: The Israeli army is constantly targeting journalists in Gaza. This trend continued this week as well. Reuters journalist Husam al-Masri was killed in Israeli firing while conducting a live video feed at Gaza's Nasser Hospital. He was constantly reporting on the suffering of civilians in the war and bringing Israeli war crimes to the world.
Al-Masri himself was living in a tent and struggling to arrange food for his family. Yet he did not give up his work and continued reporting courageously. His colleagues said that 49-year-old Masri was an experienced cameraman whose positive attitude in the most dangerous situations made him popular among Gaza's journalists.
Reuters journalist Mohammed Salem, who worked with Masri during last year's Gaza war, remembers him as a man of immense optimism who would say, "Tomorrow will be better," even as conditions in Gaza deteriorated. Salem had known Masri since 2003 and worked with him in Rafah, south of Gaza, last year.
Gaza journalists have worked to expose Israeli crimes in the war to the outside world. More than 300 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks so far. Reuters editor-in-chief Alessandra Galloni said, "Husam was completely dedicated to telling Gaza's story to the world." Apart from journalists, health workers and aid workers have also been killed in the Israeli attack. Apart from this, the death toll in Israeli attacks has crossed 63 thousand.
